CA-7 · OWCP Form
Claim for Compensation
The form that requests OWCP wage-loss compensation after Continuation of Pay (COP) ends — or when COP doesn't apply.
Who Files
The injured federal employee, after COP ends or for occupational disease (CA-2) cases that have no COP.
When to File
After your 45-day COP runs out (for CA-1 cases) or as soon as you have lost wages on a CA-2 case. File CA-7 for each pay period of continuing wage loss.
Deadline
There is no hard deadline, but delays cause cash-flow gaps. File on the day COP ends, or sooner if your physician documents continued disability.
What the Form Does
Requests OWCP wage-loss compensation at 66 ⅔% of your pay rate (75% with eligible dependents), tax-free. Keeps you paid while you recover and your case proceeds.
The Doctor's Role
Your physician's CA-17 and CA-20 are the medical evidence that supports the CA-7. Without them, OWCP cannot approve the wage-loss claim.
Common Mistakes That Delay Your Claim
- ✕Filing CA-7 without supporting CA-17 (duty status) and CA-20 (attending physician's report)
- ✕Failing to file CA-7 for partial wage loss when working modified duty at lower pay
- ✕Letting paperwork lapse and accumulating gaps in compensation
